The digital storefront had served electronic music for roughly two decades, including a deep drum & bass catalogue. Its closure left a practical question for DJs and labels: what happens when a place that helped people find, buy and organise music is suddenly gone?

For many selectors, buying a download is part of a working process. It means having a file for a set, knowing its version and being able to locate it again. Juno Download also offered a route through specialised styles and independent releases. Losing that route affects discovery as well as the act of purchasing. The separate Juno Records retail site should not be confused with the closed download service.

The independent label question

A smaller imprint can gain visibility when a specialist store places its releases next to bigger names in the right genre. When that store closes, the same label has to rebuild those paths to listeners elsewhere. That does not mean the music disappears; it does mean its catalogue links, purchase options and audience habits need attention.

LoveThatBass published a message it said distributor Cygnus Music had sent to its labels about outstanding royalties. The message described a commitment to settlement and an ongoing accounting process. We have not independently verified individual payments, so a promise of settlement should not be read as confirmation that every account has been paid.

A store can close. A properly maintained library of legally purchased files, release information and backups gives a DJ a more durable working collection.

What can a DJ do now?

Audit the files already held. Check music folders and backup drives for missing purchases, then identify any gaps from receipts or library records.

Keep more than one copy. An external drive and a separate backup location reduce the risk of a single device failure.

Preserve track information. Keep artist, label, catalogue, mix version and purchase record together so the files remain searchable.

Follow official updates. If account access or recovery routes are offered, verify them through authentic channels; availability may change.

Where discovery goes next

Independent labels, artist stores and other download services still provide ways to support the music directly. No one shop can replace the full network of DJs, producers and listeners behind drum & bass. Our view is that a healthier ecosystem gives people several routes into a release and makes credits and catalogue details easy to carry between them.

The closure is a prompt to look after what we already have: the files, the metadata and the relationships that make a catalogue worth exploring. Those are the parts a platform cannot preserve on its own.

Read the report behind this story.LoveThatBass report ↗

Source and context: LoveThatBass, 1 June 2026; Drum & Bass UK on preservation.
